| To my family and friends, 7-29-2009 Man it sucks to get old! About six years ago (at the age of 37) I had my first back surgery to repair two severely bulging discs in my lower back. I had been battling degenerative disc disease since my early 20's and couldn't take the pain any longer. After having the surgery, I was able to do some things I wasn't able to do, such as golf, exercise, lift weights, etc. But wouldn't you know it, my back wasn't done with me yet! I ruptured a disc while preparing for my golf league and had to have emergency surgery to repair the damage. Let's see.....that's 6 years and 3 blown discs....at this rate I'll be wheelchair bound by age 50! Let's hope that doesn't happen anytime soon. But things could be worse.....ALOT worse. While lying in my bed, moaning and groaning and complaining about my situation, I turned on the TV to watch an interview with a gentleman. He was talking about how he initially thought how life was unfair in his early years. I thought to myself "what's this guys problem?' And then the camera pulled back to reveal that this man was born without any arms or legs. Yet with all of life's cards seemingly stacked against him, he travels the world as a missionary preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and has been responsible for countless people being saved. Talk about a wakeup call for me! No matter how bad you think you've got things, there's always somebody else worse off than you. 1st Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Until next time, David |
